How It WorksA lot of work has gone into creating an iPod shuffle that not only talks, but says the right things. It all begins with iTunes and its seamless integration with iPod. iTunes reads your song information, then uses the new VoiceOver Kit to generate the announcements for the songs, artists, and playlists on your iPod shuffle. You'll hear different voices depending on what type of computer system you use when you sync your iPod shuffle. If you sync it with a PC or with a Mac running Mac OS X Tiger, you'll hear the English voice included in the VoiceOver Kit. And since Mac OS X Leopard already has an amazing English voice built in, that's the one you'll hear when you sync your iPod shuffle with a Mac running Leopard.
Multiple LanguagesYour music library may have songs from all over the world--a love song from France, a bolero from Spain, a pop tune from Japan. Luckily, VoiceOver speaks in 14 languages. iTunes automatically selects the language and best voice for your song titles and artist names. It looks at song data, like the title, artist, and album information, then applies intelligent algorithms to choose the right language. For example, iTunes recognizes the song "Ya Viene el Sol" by Ozomatli as a Spanish song, so your iPod shuffle will automatically speak that song title and artist name in Spanish. If you'd prefer to hear song titles and artist names spoken in a specific language, you can change the designated VoiceOver language in iTunes. Just select one or more songs, choose Get Info from the File menu, and then select the VoiceOver language in the Options pane.

Teen appealing I bought this ipod shuffle for my sixteen year old daughter. She really likes it. However, I think that I may have been better off saving up for a ipod nano. This ipod only came in black and silver. My daughter would have preferred a different color. Overall the quality is good but for $60 more you can get a ipod nano with a lot more features.
I declared myself an apple fanboy after I bought this. I would give it 3 1/2 stars. Pros: -Very, very small and awesome form factor design -Sounds pretty decent -I like the voice over feature -Big capacity for the form factor Cons: -Headphones -Headphones -Headphones I am using my shuffle to run and it is working pretty good.I do not regret my buy, but if you prefer a better overall value, I recommend the Sansa Clip.
Great Design - Idiotic Critical Design Flaw - Sweat Ruins Headphones The unit itself is terrific, the voice music ID thing is great, the size is fantastic, and, theoretically, the controls are cleverly built into the headset. But what the geniuses who designed the headsets apparently failed to take into account is that PEOPLE ACTUALLY SWEAT when they workout. For those of us who use these for running, it's a real blast to have the thing start shorting out 5 miles into your run because droplets of sweat from your head or neck hit the control switch that's built into the right earphone. Suddenly the volume either minimizes or maximizes, the track skip and rewind functions stop working, and play/pause works only sparodcially. This has happened to me THREE TIMES with THREE REPLACEMENT EARPHONES. Each time I take an hour of my day to schlep out to the Genius Bar, and each time the guy behind the counter acts like (a) it's his first time even seeing the new 3g Shuffle, and (b) like he's never heard of the moisture/sweat problem, even though there are tons of complaints here on amazon, and tons more on Apple's websites. Should Apple be smart enough to acknowledge the issue? Or do they just expect people to drive to the store every week for a new set of headphones? I'm a huge Apple fan, but this headset issue is right up there with MobileMe in the category of bungled Apple products.
